Martyn Dennis – Motor Sport / VSCC Liason
Our family’s 1934 Gloria G10 Tourer originally had the 9.5 HP engine, which fairly early on in its life was swapped for a 10.8 HP unit.
My late Father bought the Triumph in 1962 from a gentleman in Warwick believed to be only the second owner.
When I became custodian 25 yrs ago it was apparent another engine was required and I subsequently acquired one which had just been rebuilt from Peter Plant in Repton. This engine was installed during a full ‘nut & bolt ‘rebuild undertaken by Rob Green. I had Gloria’s first brown log book and it pinpointed the first owner to be a gentleman living in a village just west of Torquay. Upon my next trip to Cornwall, curiosity obviously necessitated a slight detour!
The address, funnily enough, turned out to be just as I had imagined – a large imposing country house overlooking Dartmoor. There was a separate detached double length garage which I presumed was where Gloria spent her War Years.
I discovered that the wealthy land- owning Gent had a large family & also drove a big Wolseley presumably as a ‘ Family Barge ‘ and rode a Royal Enfield, maybe to escape !
These days Gloria has two slightly more senior stablemates & gets used during the Summer months as much as possible.
