Our Saturday Outing…

Shortly after breakfast, leaving Bosworth Hall Hotel approximately 10am, we’ll have a pleasant 8 1/2 mile drive to Shackerstone Station, in time for the first train of the day which departs at 11am.

The Battlefield Line is the last remaining part of the former Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway which was opened in 1873. It runs from Shackerstone via Market Bosworth to Shenton in Leicestershire and is operated by the Shackerstone Railway Society.

Shackerstone Station (POSTCODE: CV13 6NW) is at the northern end of the line, and is the headquarters of the railway with museum, Victorian tea room, souvenir shop, loco shed and main rolling stock located here. There is ample free parking, and the Ashby Canal is just a stones throw away.

We will board the train for the 11am departure, with the first stop being Market Bosworth (the train only stops for 5 minutes here though..), and then onto Shenton Station where the train will again stop for a longer period of 15 minutes before returning back up the line towards Shackerstone. If you wish to stop here, it is just 15 minutes walk to Bosworth Battlefield. You would need to catch a later train back though, and this may delay you arriving at our lunchtime venue.

Arrival back into Shackerstone Station would be 11:55am giving further opportunity to explore the amenities at the station including a museum, gift shop and tea rooms.

Onto our Lunchtime stop, we have reserved a large select area at The Gate Inn, Osbaston from 1pm onwards giving you the opportunity for lunch, snacks or just a drink. This lovely pub is located on the A447 midway between Shackerstone and Bosworth Hall Hotel (POSTCODE: CV13 0HP).
