Our Upcoming Annual Rally – Weekend of 10th and 11th June 2017
At the time of writing, we’re only two months away from our annual rally at Wroxall Abbey so can I now ask you to finalise your plans to join in by booking your rooms and meals with Martin. His negotiated rate for bed and breakfast for two people is £95 and singles are available at £85 and these rates apply across the whole weekend. Our annual four course dinner will be £27 per person, with the menu shown below.
Please let Martin have your choices when you book with him. For those staying additional nights an optional dinner menu will be available.
For those of you who haven’t been there, Wroxall is simply lovely. The long majestic driveway from the main road brings you to the front of this magnificent Grade II listed Victorian building, which exudes traditional elegance and grandeur. Once the site of a country home of Sir Christopher Wren, the mansion which was built in 1868 displays many fine, original features, including historic crests, working fires with grand wooden and stone surrounds, Minton tiled entrance hall, high ceilings and the legend of St Leonard depicted in the beautiful stained glass window. The grounds contain the ruins of the original abbey, the lovely church and acres of landscapes. Of course, it’s absolutely steeped in history which, I’m sure will satisfy the most ardent “culture vultures” amongst us.
Generally, the weekend starts on Friday evening with those who travel longer distances and those who simply want to make more of a weekend away assembling together in the bar in preparation for dinner at 7.30. Saturday is a relaxed day with activities, often a road run to somewhere of interest. On this occasion we’re doing something slightly different! The club has arranged for a vintage bus to show us the sights around the Warwickshire countryside including Warwick and Stratford-Upon-Avon with a stop off at The Tipperary Inn for those who wish to purchase lunch. Then back to Wroxall for 2:30pm with time in the afternoon to prepare our site for Sunday’s rally and Annual General Meeting; a short period of rest and recuperation before meeting together in the bar (again!) in anticipation of our annual celebratory dinner. Some light entertainment to follow dinner is planned and Martin has conjured up a magician (geddit??) to amaze and astonish. To quote “Damon Conlan is an award winning magician from the West Midlands who combines sleight of hand and comedy to delight, mystify and astound. He specialises in close-up magic; wizardry performed a few feet away, in front of your very eyes. Expert magic with cards, coins, rope and the odd bit of mind reading, Damon performs close-up magic like no other and his whimsical wonders always impress and keep the soiree in fine spirits!”
The format of this year’s rally is a major departure from those held in recent years in that the accommodation and the rally venue are the same. No journey to make on Sunday morning and a great chance to enjoy everything that the hotel and its surrounding grounds can offer. The hotel boasts a delightful spa facility and Martin has negotiated a 20% discount for those who wish to partake. The four treatments on offer are shown below and are based on a 30 minute time slot. Early booking through Martin is advised for those of you who wish to pamper your treasured one – and I don’t mean your car!
The rally field will be open from 10.00am and, please remember, as with last year, Richard will not be displaying spares. He is far keener, gladly, to arrive in his Gloria but is happy to bring anything for anyone on a pre-ordered basis. Our AGM is scheduled for midday, a communal picnic lunch will follow and the hotel can provide that, should those staying wish to have something. The raffle, awards and a generally sociable time will then be the order of the day – no doubt, it will be gone in a flash!
